  • On the left: The History of Jazz by the great Ted Gioia. The book provides a truly comprehensive history of jazz, and it debunks common myths, like the misconception of jazz solely originating in New Orleans (it's a lot more complicated). On the right: The Art of Becoming - How Group Improvisation Works. It contains many great insights I will make sure to reference in future research!

  • Happy to see that Toshiko Akiyoshi is one of the top recommendations for listening by Ted Gioia in The History of Jazz (found in the back of the book)!

  • "Sociological, Discursive, and Narrative Approaches" is the section I find most interesting in the Handbook of Musical Identities.
